Royal Paper Box
Our History
1940s & 1950s
Royal was founded by Harry Lourie. Soon after, he hired a die-maker named Clary Hodges, who would later assume the role of production manager. Harry Lourie decided to retire in the mid-50’s. Clary Hodges, a group of outside investors, and a few other key employees purchased the company.
1960s & 1970s
To satisfy the increase in volume and the expanding market for custom packaging, Royal purchased its 1st offset printing press, a 29″ Miehle, in the early 1960’s and later expanded for the second time to a 60,000 square foot facility in Montebello, California.
1980s & 1990s
After expanding the company’s footprint with an additional 40K sqft in the late 70’s, the company was able to purchase the stock of all shareholders making Clary the sole proprietor of Royal Paper Box.
2000s & 2010s
After his passing in 1991, Clary’s son Jim assumed full control of Royal Paper Box. Jim began his career at Royal doing odd jobs in his teens. After serving our country in the US Marine Corps, Jim returned to work at the company. Then, following in his father’s footsteps, Jim became plant manager before his father’s passing.

With a strong presence in the western region of the United States, Royal has become a leading independent folding carton manufacturer. Our company benefits from a workforce of over 200 highly experienced employees, with an average tenure of 14 years.
We have a strong global presence, shipping our products to customers worldwide. Our reach extends to countries such as Singapore, Germany, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Italy, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico.
Our facility is located on a spacious 10-1/2-acre site in the vibrant Los Angeles area. Our campus includes three buildings, with a total area of 172,500 square feet. We proudly produce in excess of 250 million cartons for our valued customers each year. Our production capacity is intentionally kept below maximum to allow for future expansion and ensure flexibility in our operations.
Our client base primarily consists of companies in FDA-regulated sectors such as Pharmaceutical, Biotech, and Medical Devices.
